Odessa was liberated on April 10, 1944, and on May 1, 1945, in the order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, it was first called a hero city. Officially, the title of hero city was awarded to Odessa in 1965.
On the stele "Wings of Victory" on marble plaques the names of Odessa Heroes of the Soviet Union are immortalized.
Today the city is under occupation again.
