Dr. Amen: Exactly. Children model their behavior after their parents. The way we live our lives becomes the lessons we teach. For instance, if parents are constantly on their phones or quick to anger, displaying poor emotional regulation or self-control, that becomes the underlying message communicated to their children.

Also, just spending 20 minutes a day with our children makes a difference.

I appreciate when parents ask more thought-provoking questions to engage their children in meaningful conversations about their day. Instead of the typical "How was your day?" which often elicits a simple "Good" response, it's more effective to ask questions like "What went well today?" or "What did you learn today?"

These types of questions encourage children to reflect more deeply on their experiences and foster more substantive dialogue between parent and child.
