In the Ewe mythology of West Africa, the Adze is a vampiric creature that takes the form of a firefly. In its firefly form, it sneaks into homes to suck people's blood while they sleep. If captured, it transforms into a human. The Adze is feared for causing illness and death, and it's often associated with witchcraft.
