“O my God, at the end of this day I thank You most heartily for all the graces I have received
from You. I am sorry that I have not made better use of them. I am sorry for all the sins I have
committed against You. Forgive me, O my God, and graciously protect me this night. Blessed
Virgin Mary, my dear heavenly mother, take me under your protection. St. Joseph, my dear
Guardian Angel, and all you saints of God, pray for me. Sweet Jesus, have pity on all poor
sinners, and save them from hell. Have mercy on the suffering souls in purgatory. Amen.”
Faithfulness in Prayer and Trust in God’s Providence
Welcome back to our podcast, where we dive deep into the beauty of traditional Catholic spirituality. Today, we’ll reflect on two powerful quotes from the saints St. Vincent de Paul and St. Teresa of Calcutta that remind us of God’s unwavering faithfulness and the peace that comes from a life rooted in prayer. These reflections invite us to trust in God’s providence, especially when life is uncertain, and to embrace prayer as a source of comfort, not anxiety.
In a world filled with distractions, challenges, and trials, we often feel overwhelmed or abandoned by God. Yet, as Catholics, we are reminded again and again that God is always faithful to those who love and trust Him. St. Vincent de Paul’s simple yet profound words, “If we are faithful to God, we will lack nothing,” call us back to that trust, and St. Teresa of Calcutta’s reflection on prayer offers us a way to remain close to God, even when we struggle to find the words.
Let’s begin with the words of St. Vincent de Paul:
"If we are faithful to God, we will lack nothing."
This statement is both a reassurance and a challenge. It reassures us that no matter how difficult our circumstances may seem, God’s providence will never fail us. He knows our needs before we even ask (Matthew 6:8). But this also challenges us to remain faithful, especially in times of trial when we might be tempted to rely on our own strength or despair of God’s goodness.
Faithfulness to God is not just about going to Mass or saying our prayers when it’s easy. It’s about remaining steadfast in trust, even when we feel spiritually dry or when life feels like it’s falling apart. Our faithfulness is an act of love, one that acknowledges that God is in control and that He desires our good, even when we don’t understand His plans.
St. Teresa of Calcutta offers us a beautiful reflection on how this trust in God’s faithfulness should be at the heart of our prayer life:
"Prayer is not meant to be a torture... It is something to look forward to, to talk to my Father, to talk to Jesus, the one to whom I belong: body, soul, mind, heart."
How often do we approach prayer with anxiety, as though it’s a burden or obligation? St. Teresa reminds us that prayer is a conversation with the One who loves us most, the One to whom we belong completely. It is a time to rest in God’s presence, to be with Him, and to share our hearts. This understanding of prayer as a relationship with our Father should change the way we approach our daily conversations with God. It’s not about saying the right words or meeting a quota; it’s about spending time with someone who loves us.
And when we find ourselves unable to pray, when our hearts are heavy or distracted, St. Teresa encourages us to trust that Jesus will pray in us:
"Let me allow Him to pray in me, to talk to His Father in the silence of my heart... Jesus in my heart, I believe in your faithful love for me."
What a beautiful invitation this is! We don’t need to force ourselves to find the right words when prayer feels difficult. We simply need to invite Jesus into our hearts and allow Him to bring our needs, our fears, and our desires before the Father. This is an act of surrender, of trusting that even in our weakness, God’s grace is at work.
This trust in prayer and God’s providence is beautifully reflected in Psalm 37:
"Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act." (Psalm 37:5)
When we commit our lives to God our joys, our struggles, our uncertainties He will act. This doesn’t mean that our lives will always go according to our plans, but it does mean that God is always working for our good, even in the midst of suffering. Our role is to trust and to remain faithful, knowing that He is guiding us, even when we can’t see the path ahead.

Practical Application:
Approach Prayer as a Relationship:
As St. Teresa of Calcutta reminds us, prayer is a conversation with our loving Father. Make time each day to sit in silence with God, not out of obligation, but out of a desire to be with the One who loves you most. Speak to Him from your heart, and when words fail, trust that Jesus is praying in you.
Surrender to God’s Providence:
Like St. Vincent de Paul teaches, we are called to remain faithful to God, trusting that He will provide for all our needs. When you face challenges or uncertainty, take time to consciously surrender your concerns to God, trusting that He will act in His perfect timing.
Find Peace in God’s Faithfulness:
When you are tempted to doubt or fear, remind yourself of God’s faithfulness. Repeat the words of Psalm 37: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.” Let this be your prayer in times of anxiety, and allow it to bring you peace.

Conclusion:
Today, we’ve reflected on the importance of trust and faithfulness in our relationship with God. St. Vincent de Paul’s reminder that we will lack nothing if we remain faithful, and St. Teresa of Calcutta’s invitation to allow Jesus to pray in us, offer us profound guidance for our spiritual journey. Prayer is not meant to be burdensome or anxious; it is meant to be a time of intimacy with God, where we trust in His love and surrender our lives to His providence.

Let us take these lessons to heart and strive to live each day with a renewed sense of trust in God’s care for us. May we approach prayer with joy, knowing that it is our time to rest in the arms of our loving Father, and may we always remember that in our faithfulness, God will never abandon us.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for Your faithful love and care for us. Teach us to trust in Your providence in all things, knowing that You will never leave us lacking. Help us to approach prayer with joy and peace, seeing it as an opportunity to grow closer to You. When we are weak or unable to pray, send Your Son into our hearts to pray for us, and guide us always on the path of faithfulness.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
Thank you for joining me today. Let us continue to trust in God’s love and faithfulness as we journey together toward greater holiness. Until next time, may God bless you and keep you in His peace.
