In the wake of the execution of Marcellus Williams, several individuals are falsely blaming Vice President Kamala Harris for not speaking out loudly enough or doing enough to spare Williams' life.

The president and vice president of the United States cannot stop state executions. The president can only intervene in federal executions. Vice President Kamala Harris cannot stop a federal execution because she is not the president.

While many are lashing out at Vice President Harris, it’s important to note that before 2020, there had been only three federal executions in 60 years. Then Donald Trump put 13 people to death in six months.
