Last night: Hurricane Helene tears into Florida as locals brace for 'unsurvivable' 20 foot storm surges | More than two million Americans are without power after Hurricane Helene lashed five American states with heavy rain and strong winds.

Around 1.2 million residents in Florida are without electricity, while more than 800,000 people across Georgia and 500,000 across North and South Carolina are also without power.

Helene, the seventh strongest hurricane to hit Florida, made landfall in the eastern state as a category four hurricane. However, it weakened to a tropical storm as it moved more inland over Georgia.

At least one person died in the hurricane, while two more perished in Georgia, according to local authorities.
