My response to "Health Shares are not legit"

I usually hear this comment from health insurance agents🤣

The fact is, health shares are non-profit organizations that will pay (or “share”) for eligible medical expenses (or “needs”) for their members once they’ve paid their IUA, or member responsibility amount towards the cost.

Let's break that down in English: So if my IUA is $1,000 and the total cost is $50,000 for an eligible medical need: I pay $1,000 and the health share pays $49,000.

Sounds pretty legit to me 🤷‍♀️

In fact, if you do the math, with a health share you’re typically paying less each month AND less when you have a large medical expense when compared to health insurance.

THE ONLY CAVEAT HERE: If your medical need is related to a pre-existing condition when you enrolled, there are limitations on sharing. Usually nothing related to the pre-existing condition is shareable the first year, and limited sharing after that (for example, up to $25k the 2nd year of membership, and up to $100k the 4th year of membership)

I think they do this so people don’t join AFTER an accident or diagnosis, and then leave once the medical bills are paid. That’s just my guess. Makes sense to me though.

That’s why it’s best to join a health share BEFORE you “need it”. Before you get pregnant. Before your kid breaks an arm on the trampoline. Before a scary diagnosis.
