COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo --- The Colorado Springs police Department released Briefing Video providing a summary of releasable facts, circumstances, and information currently known to investigators regarding an officer-involved shooting in Colorado Springs on September 3, 2024.

According to police, on Tuesday September 3, 2024 at approximately 10:30 pm, Colorado Springs police Department officers with the Sand Creek division located an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart in the 3200 block of East Platte avenue.

Officers coordinated with extra duty officers in the Walmart to identify the occupants of the stolen vehicle.
Officers identified a male and a female as the occupants of the stolen vehicle. Officers approached the individuals as they were exiting the store, at which time the male produced a handgun.
As a result, at least one officer fired at least one round at the male suspect, striking the male. Officers began rendering medical aid until medical personnel arrived.
The male suspect succumbed to his injuries on the scene.

The suspect was later identified as 29-year-old Tyler Jacob Ben.

Police said that the female associate was detained and was not injured. There were no other reported injuries to anyone else in the store. No officers were injured in this incident. Per CSPD policy, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office will be investigating this officer-involved shooting.
