Can actors have tattoos?

Four main reasons, beyond the fact that their tattoo artist should be cited when the tattoo is shown on screen: character versatility, time and cost of covering tattoos, continuity issues, and to shy away from any permanent marks that could interfere with potential roles or push them to commit to any roles that are tattoo-specific. Tattoos may limit an actor's ability to fit into certain roles, particularly period pieces or characters that aren't meant to have visible tattoos. Some roles may require an actor to have a certain "look" that doesn't accommodate tattoos. If an actor has visible tattoos, production teams often have to spend time and money covering them up with makeup or digital effects, which can be tedious and expensive. If an actor gets a new tattoo in the middle of filming a project, it can cause continuity problems if the tattoo is not part of the character. There are many big-name actors with tattoos, though.
