San Francisco, California — On September 13, 2024, at approximately 10:18 a.m., uniformed officers with the San Francisco Police Department assigned to Healthy Street Operation Center (HSOC) were in the area of Jessie and 6th Streets conducting a city-wide operation when they observed a suspect, later identified as 30-year-old Justin Matthew Alderman, sleeping in a stolen white BMW, with a gun in plain view in the passenger seat. When officers approached the vehicle, Alderman exited the vehicle, and a foot pursuit ensued. The armed suspect ran into a retail store in the area in an attempt to evade police officers. Alderman later exited the store and continued to flee from officers and ran down into the Powell BART Station. Officers attempted to make contact with Alderman. During the encounter, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Alderman was struck by gunfire. Officers rendered aid and paramedics responded to the scene. Alderman was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and a loaded revolver was recovered from the scene. The revolver in the suspect’s possession was loaded with five unused cartridges and one spent cartridge.
