Joshua Jericho and Revelation - Coffee with Jesus Podcast
In this video, we take a deep dive into Joshua 6:4, where God commands, “Seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of ram’s horns; and on the seventh day, you shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.” At first glance, this seems straightforward, but when we dig deeper, we find some intriguing questions—especially regarding the role of the priests.
🔍 Why Were the Priests Marching?
According to the Torah, priests from the Levite tribe weren't supposed to go to war. Numbers 10 outlines their responsibility for the Tabernacle and priestly duties, not military action. So, why were they leading this procession around Jericho?
📖 Understanding the 12 vs. 13 Tribes of Israel
To grasp the full picture, we need to discuss the tribes of Israel. Did you know there are actually thirteen tribes when you consider Joseph's sons, Ephraim and Manasseh? We break down how this plays into the military and spiritual dynamics of the situation.
⚔️ The Priesthood’s Role in Warfare
This scenario raises serious questions about the priests’ involvement in what appears to be a military maneuver. They were not supposed to bear arms, so what's going on here? Is this a violation of God’s ordinances, or is something deeper at play?
📅 Sabbath and the Seventh Day
What’s even more fascinating is how this aligns—or conflicts—with the concept of rest on the Sabbath. Marching around Jericho seven times on the seventh day breaks the traditional understanding of “rest.” Could this be pointing to a more profound, spiritual concept of rest, as explored in the book of Hebrews?
💥 The Shout That Brought the Walls Down
In verse 5, we read, “When you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout. Then the wall of the city shall fall down flat.” After all that marching, the walls of Jericho didn’t fall from the trumpets but from a shout! This raises some compelling questions about the power of obedience and divine intervention.
🔇 The Silence Before the Shout
In verse 10, Joshua commands the people to stay silent until he gives the order to shout. This period of silence builds up to the dramatic climax of the story and is a crucial element often overlooked.
A Prelude to Something Greater
I genuinely believe the Holy Spirit is guiding us to compare the Battle of Jericho with a much larger narrative. In my view, Joshua, who leads God’s people to reclaim their promised land from the usurpers, foreshadows another Joshua—Yahoshua, Jesus Christ—who will return to reclaim the earth from those who have taken it.
Just as the Israelites had their two spies, I believe Christ will send His two witnesses ahead of Him. They’ll prepare the way for Him to redeem the earth, which, in prophetic terms, has been divided into ten nations that will consolidate into seven. This concept of heads and horns is a recurring theme in Revelation, and it parallels the alliances we see forming among the remaining kings in Joshua’s account.
