In recent years consumer reports have indicated a reduction in fast food consumption by Americans. Unfortunately, this downward trend was significantly interrupted by the pandemic of 2020. There are multiple reasons as to why fast food consumption increased during the pandemic. At the same time, the cost of fast food has gone up, and companies are now producing an even cheaper product to raise their bottom line of profits.

One of the most common ways, fast food companies increase their profit margins is by increasing the shelflife of their product. These companies literally hire scientist to genetically modify ingredients and produce chemicals, all designed to make sure that their food can last near indefinitely. Although this may be good for their profit margins, it is not good for the American people to be consuming.

Propylene glycol is among one of the many chemicals being used to further preserve the food so that it can be served to consumers at any time. If we have learned anything from the history of fast food companies, it’s that they no longer have the consumers best interest at mind.
