Texas Couple Gets Lengthy Prison Sentences After Their Pit Bulls Mauled Elderly Veteran To Death

A Texas couple whose pit bulls viciously mauled an elderly veteran to death will each spend nearly a decade behind bars for the unprovoked attack.
81-year-old Ramon Najera was killed and his 74-year-old wife, Juanita, was injured in the attack after the dogs got loose from their yard and charged the couple.
Christian Morena will spend the next 18 years behind bars, with Abilene Schneider receiving a 15-year prison sentence, the DA’s Office stating the couple was criminally negligent by not providing adequate fencing and allowing the dogs to roam free.
Before imposing the sentence, the judge said “What happened was an unspeakable horror”
Firefighters who arrived on the scene saw a bloodied man being dragged around a corner by dogs, They had to use axes to fend off the animals.
The three dogs involved in the attack were euthanized.
