Plants vs Zombies 2 - Plant of the Week - Buttercup - September 2024

Plant of the Week - Buttercup - was offered between September 21, 2024 through September 28, 2024.

Buttercup is a member of the Contain-Mint family.
Buttercup costs 25 Sun.
When eaten, Buttercup fling a pad of butter at the attacking zombie.
This pad of butter will do 100 damage (+50 damage for levels 2-9. +400 at level 10.)
The excess pad of butter will be left on the tile. This butter puddle will last for 120 seconds.
The next zombie which touches this will be stunned for eight (8) seconds. (+1 second per level except levels 4, 6 and 8.) This will consume the butter puddle.
That zombie will also take 100 damage. (+50 damage for levels 2-9. +400 at level 10.)

Commentary:
Wall plants are good at stalling zombies but their main problem is that they are all speed bumps to the zombie horde. These wall plants will slow zombies down but will not eliminate zombies directly. Buttercup will damage the zombies which makes worth analyzing.

Bottom Line:
Pros:
It's quite inexpensive at 25 Sun.
Decent damage for its cost.

Cons:
Only throws butter when attacked.
For a wall, is quite fragile.

It's tough to poo-poo a plant when it costs so little. We expect big things from plants which have a big cost. So for low cost plants, we need to reel in our expectations.

That said, there are some low cost plants which have good effects. Chili Bean eliminates any zombie which eats it. Squash flattens zombies in a square. Iceberg Lettuce will freeze zombies with no cost. Buttercup has good effects for its costs but is “unreliable”. Maybe the zombie will be eliminated - maybe not. That uncertainty make it difficult to trust Buttercup.
