Camp Alunite (Texas Acres, Klinger Spring) of 1908. This was the first scientific gold prospect in Nevada. Trust the science... not! Although his prospecting here cost him his fortune he got it back in the oil fields of Texas, hence Texas Acres. Heat and lack of water hampered mining and prospecting efforts, and many miners ceased activity during the hot summer months. A newspaper report optimistically predicted plenty of activity in the fall (LVA 1906c). A few hardy souls did continue working during the summer, such as the three miners working on the Bishop, Colson, and Jefferson claims, that had " ... plenty of water in their cement cistern".
