When a Facebook Marketplace Scammer Thinks He’s Gotten Away with It

On August 5, 2022 in Florida, an officer was investigating a report of a man who had used fake cash to pay a Facebook Marketplace seller. The man had arranged to meet the seller at a nearby mall to purchase a pair of Nike Dunks for $160. After they had exchanged the shoes and cash, the seller noticed that the bills he'd been given had an odd texture to them. He tried to go after the man, but he fled the area. When the seller noticed a nearby officer, he approached him and told him what happened. This is body cam footage of the events that followed.
