Thermite mixture is a powdery mixture of aluminum (less often magnesium) with oxides of various metals (usually iron).
When ignited, it burns intensely with the release of large amounts of heat.

It usually has a combustion temperature of 2300-2700 °C, and in case of application of stronger oxidizing agents such as nickel, chromium or tungsten oxides, it burns at even higher temperatures.
