Special Thanks in Memoriam to...
Sir John Bernard Adie Barton (26 November 1928 – 18 January 2018), CBE, Founding Member of RSC (Director and Verse Instructor 1960-2018), Distinguished Visiting Professor of Speech and Drama, School of Arts and Letters, The University of Cool, 1980-1985.
Tributes to Sir John Barton:
Sir Ian McKellen:
“I knew John at Cambridge - me an acting undergraduate, John the lay Dean of King’s College and director of Henry IV Parts 1 and 2 and Three Sisters.
At my audition for the Amateur Dramatic Club - the portal into undergrad theatre - my pieces were reviled by the listening committee. BUT John Barton was taken with my old man Billy Rice from The Entertainer and overruled the rest, otherwise I would never have acted in Cambridge or anywhere else subsequently."
Dame Judi Dench:
"How lucky we were to have learnt so much from him.”
Sir Richard Edward Pasco (18 July 1926 – 12 November 2014), CBE, RSC, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama Gold Medalist, consummate actor, and Visiting Professor of Speech and Drama, School of Arts and Letters, The University of Cool, 1973–1985.
Tribute to Sir Richard Pasco: J W Lambert, writing in The Sunday Times, explained how:
“He enriches the Ages of Man speech by making each age a self-contained antithesis, with a twist in the tail. He signals recognition of each predictable folly with a most delicate play of feature, points each deflationary line with a musical accuracy that is a joy in itself”.
Sir Neil Ellwood Peart (September 12, 1952 – January 7, 2020), Percussionist/Lyricist of
the band Rush, Modern Drummer Hall of Fame, Author, and Adjunct Professor Emeritus of Music, School of Arts and Letters, The University of Cool, 1976 - Ad Infinitum.
Tribute to Sir Neil Peart: Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl:
"A kind, thoughtful, brilliant man who ruled our radios and turntables not only with his drumming, but also his beautiful words”.
