David Blanchard and the Bedroom Door

Dee Dee Blanchard's bedroom didn't have a door on it when David Blanchard (no relation) walked through the house to find Dee Dee and Gypsy. So why did he tell police that he didn't see Dee Dee's body because the bedroom door was shut?
