Arkansas State police release dashcam of a traffic stop that ended in struggle and shooting

Arkansas State Police have released dash camera footage from a Jul. 27 traffic stop that ended in an officer-involved shooting.

On Wednesday, Benton County Prosecutor Joshua Robinson ruled that ASP Trooper Alexandria Duncan's use of deadly force in the shooting was consistent with Arkansas law.

Police say that at 7:43 p.m., Duncan attempted to perform a traffic stop on 26-year-old Angel Zapet-Alvarado after he passed her on Interstate 49 traveling at 114 miles-per-hour.

In a release, police say that Zapet-Alvarado initially showed no signs of stopping, even after Duncan activated her emergency lights and sirens behind him.

After Zapet-Alvarado stopped his vehicle on the right shoulder, police say that Duncan observed him with his hand on the gearshift and stopped him from driving by taking his keys.

The release says that when Zapet-Alvarado ignored commands to exit the vehicle and resisted Duncan's attempts to remove him, she tased him.

Police say that Zapet-Alvarado wrestled Duncan's taser from her hands and threw it into oncoming traffic. ASP also say that he kicked her head multiple times.

ASP says 31-year-old Kylie Sutton witnessed the altercation and attempted to assist Duncan.

Duncan then unholstered her weapon and fired one round at Zapet-Alvarado, wounding his right temple.

Police say that Zapet-Alvarado continued to resist arrest after being shot.

Zapet-Alvarado was then transported to Mercy Hospital, Northwest Arkansas, where he was treated and turned over to law enforcement.

Police say that toxicology reports indicated that his blood-alcohol content was .16, twice the legal limit, and that cannabinoids were present.

He is currently being held in the Benton County Sheriff's Office Detention Center.

Duncan was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries she sustained during the incident.
