Rehabilitating Yuki | The rescue sheep with angular limb deformity

Yuki came to us at the start of the year after being rescued and raised by a couple from a farm where his mother rejected him.

Shortly before he was due to arrive at the sanctuary, he suffered an illness and during this time slipped and broke part of his femur. The opposite hind leg subsequently started to weaken and deform.

When he came to the sanctuary, he had X-rays and was treated with anti-inflammatories. Beyond this, the vets were unable to suggest a way to heal the leg, saying he would adapt and there wasn’t much we could do as he likely has irreparable ligament damage.

The past few months have been filled with anxiety, despair and endless researching.
We eventually sought the help of our horse vet as angular limb deformities are common in foals.
With her help and that of a canine rehabilitation specialist, we had a custom brace made for Yuki. But will it help?

Yuki’s expenses on the brace and wheelchair alone exceed €700. This is just the beginning of his rehabilitation journey and we are soon going to be creating an area more suitable for animals with limited mobility.
