12 Things It’s OK to Eat with Your Hands
We all know the dinner table basics: Chew with your mouth closed, keep your elbows off the table, and use a fork, not your fingers—right? Not exactly. It’s common to come across something you eat with your hands at even the fanciest restaurants, and it’s important to know when its appropriate to dig in with your fingers. Here are 12 items that are ok to eat with your hands.
Nachos
Chicken wings-except breast or thighs
Cheese-if its served on a tray use utensil to remove the cheese
Sushi-most traditional Japanese food is used with chopsticks.
Corn on the cob.
Shrimp Cocktail-the tail left on provides easy handling
Olives-its considered polite to use your fingers. “If it has a pit, take the pit out with your index finger and thumb with your left hand and gently cover your mouth with your right hand.”
Asparagus- Historically served as a finger food during formal meals- but it has to be crisp, unsauced not soggy.
Oysters-A small fork loosens the oyster and the shell as a tool so it slips in your mouth.
Whole Articokes-leaves only and use a knife and fork for the heart.
Tacos
Ethiopian food-used with bread to scoop.
Ribs, fries, onion rings, calamari, any appetizers
