Shooting occurred during a tailgate party

After a Detroit Lions game on September 15, 2024, a tragic shooting occurred during a tailgate party near Ford Field in Eastern Market. The altercation began around 4:30 p.m., with a fight breaking out between several individuals at Shed 6. Although the brawl initially dispersed, two men later reconvened and appeared ready to resume fighting when one of them, an Oak Park man in his 30s, pulled out a gun and fired at least twice. One of the victims, a man in his 40s, was shot and killed on the spot, while another man in his 20s was critically injured and later died at the hospital the next day
