The Ego is the Enemy. Is that True?

To answer the question of whether or not the ego is our enemy, consider this small sampling of quotes from a Course in Miracles: “The ego would preserve your nightmares, and prevent you from awakening…” And, “The guilty always condemn... linking the future to the past as is the ego's law." And there is this quote: "Do not underestimate the intensity of the ego's drive for vengeance on the past...” And there are many more statements regarding the ego in the 1,754 page text of the course.
