Geochemistry as Evolved Structure, Darwinian Universal ep6
Darwinian Universal is a cosmology and physics theory that aims to provide a comprehensive explanation of the universe's origin and evolution, as well as the fundamental principles governing its behaviour. This theory incorporates elements of natural selection and evolution, as well as concepts from various fields of physics, such as quantum mechanics and general relativity.
The Darwinian Universal theory posits that the universe is a dynamic and evolving system, in which structures and processes emerge and change over time in a manner analogous to biological evolution. This includes the formation of galaxies, stars, planets, atoms and the emergence of life itself.
The theory also proposes that the fundamental constants and laws of physics may not be fixed and unchanging but could have evolved and fine-tuned over time through a process of natural selection. This could potentially explain the apparent fine-tuning of the universe, as well as the emergence of complex structures and phenomena.
A core prediction of Darwinian evolution is the rise of structures and processes that promote and sustain integrity. In evolutionary systems, structural integrity often translates to persistence, and persistence is a defining trait of successful Darwinian entities.
Through this lens, let’s explore two fundamental elements of Earth: its diverse chemical composition and the presence of water. At first glance, they may seem like unrelated components, yet their relationship is profoundly complementary. This synergy between Earth’s chemical elements and water is so precise that it challenges the notion of chance alone being responsible for their compatibility.
Imagine, for a moment, a hypothetical universe where chemical potentials exist in abundance, but without a solvent capable of unlocking and expressing their possibilities. Such a universe would be a barren wasteland of untapped potential. In contrast, our cosmos is one where extraordinary chemical potentials coexist with water, a solvent uniquely suited to unleashing the full spectrum of chemical possibilities. This relationship, particularly evident in the biochemistry of life, raises profound questions about whether such compatibility could emerge by coincidence alone.
On Earth, we observe these elements working in concert to shape the planet’s very structure. The interaction of water with Earth’s vast chemical composition drives geochemical processes that transform the planet’s surface, cementing vast sedimentary rock formations and giving Earth a rigid, enduring crust.
This observation aligns perfectly with Darwinian principles. The formation of structures that promote and sustain integrity is a natural outcome for evolutionary systems. The fact that Earth’s chemistry and water work together to create and maintain structural stability offers a compelling argument for exploring a Darwinian cosmology—where durability, persistence, and interdependence may be key factors in the evolution of not just life, but planets and celestial bodies as well.
This perspective invites us to reconsider the emergence of chemistry in the universe. Rather than an arbitrary occurrence, it may have unfolded for practical reasons, as chemical systems achieved ever-greater levels of sophistication, laying the foundation for the later emergence of biochemical processes—and life itself. What might first appear as an unfathomable mystery, the origin of life in this universe, could have a logical and natural explanation.
Earth, and similar cosmic bodies, can be viewed as entities that may have evolved intricate geochemical processes to maintain their structural integrity. This is further supported by the fact that Earth’s atmosphere is so well-suited to facilitate complex chemical reactions. From this viewpoint, Earth becomes more than just a habitable planet; it becomes an evolved entity whose chemistry has prepared the stage for life.
Just as sunlight catalyzes both geochemical and biological processes on Earth, the evolution of chemical systems under the influence of radiant energy from stars begins to make sense in this Darwinian framework. The Romans didn’t invent cement; they discovered its properties in the natural world. Similarly, if the Darwinian Universal theory holds merit, it suggests that the universe itself may have evolved these sophisticated chemical processes—cementing not just planets, but the foundations of life.
