‘Melania, Check Your Man’: Michael Steele Suggests Trump Is Cheating on His Wife with Laura Loomer

Steele: “Angelo, I want to run this, I won’t get into the fact Laura Loomer is spending more time with the president and the president’s wife, but you have this list of conspiracy theories she has advanced, including Haitian immigrants eat pets and humans. Kamala Harris lied about being black. 2020 election was stolen. Ukrainian spies infiltrated the Capitol on January sixth. School shootings were staged or allowed to her car. Casey DeSantis exaggerated breast cancer diagnosis. The deep state manipulated the weather ahead of Iowa’s compass Caucuses to benefit Nikki Haley. It is the manipulation of the weather I found the easiest of all of these things to do. [Laughter] What is it about us that makes us so stupid we believe this tran 29 and we push it out and we elevate it up. As you noted in your last answer, we actually go and try to find cooperating evidence that the deep stick manipulated the weather ahead of the Iowa caucuses. Um, I don’t understand it. To be so desperate and alone and forgotten that this is the playground where we feel accepted and believed. What is going on? Because, you know, the Laura Loomer is of the world are grafting, she is making her money, she’s got access, she is all up on the president. We have seen the photo. She is all up on her chest. We know what her deal is. Why are we the people, yeah, that photo, that photo. Where is Melania? Melania, check your man . I don’t understand. I don’t get why we are so susceptible to this kind of BS.”

CARUSONE: “It is a couple things. One, the answer to your question starts 30 years ago with Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. They started to decide what was acceptable and what was discourse and justified the means and started to sow the seeds of this distrust, we have always had that, that is part of being an American but what is different now is that, you know, 50 years ago, they all had their own little pockets. They would send out newsletters to three or four people on the street. Now you have powerful social media tools that are connecting otherwise disconnected audiences. This strategy, the one the Republicans are legitimizing right now, organizing power what used to be the fringes is so dangerous about what is being talked about. These people are connected through social media. It is getting amplified through political figures. The purpose is actually to create the conditions for the bias or violence and the vehicle for political power. That is all it is about. There are people who really believe it, they are hopped up on misinformation. Some people don’t believe it but don’t care, either. Like Ted Cruz, those of the world are doing it solely because I think it is a political strategy to get power. That is disgusting and more dangerous. They are doing it for power. That should scare all of us. This models, we just saw this play out in the U.K. with all the violence. They exploited the extremists, they exploited the disinformation online and when off and targeted muslims in violent attacks. We need to be really concerned on what is in front of us right—“
