Episode 188: Headmaster's Homeroom: Art Night: Guest: Katie Kirkland

"Katie Kirkland is a photographer and painter from Colorado. Channeling her fascination with plants, which began in childhood, she focuses on botanical subjects.
Her artistic journey began after taking a Digital SLR photography class in college. Initially she turned her lens onto plants because they were readily available subjects to use to hone her budding photography skills, but she quickly fell in love with capturing the colors and textures of the botanical world.
In 2016, during a time in life when she felt like she was in a bit of a slump, she decided to teach herself another form of art. Working with an old, water-stained sketchbook and a set of pencils, she challenged herself to draw something - anything - for 10 minutes a day. When she was ready to start working with color, she moved to digital painting. Today, she works primarily with gouache paint and ink pens.
When she isn’t working on art, you can find her tending her garden, reading, playing video games, or writing for her Substack publication Make Art Good Again. "
