Super League 2024: Kings tame the Wildcats! Hey there, folks! Mother City Pucker here with all the ice hockey news straight from the Mother City of Africa! And if you haven’t made it down to the rink yet, don’t worry, we’ve got a full schedule of Super League ice hockey games coming up—and trust me, you don’t want to miss out!
Now, let's dive into the first game of the 2024 Super League challenge between the Cape Town Kings and the Gauteng Wildcats, which took place last night at the iconic Ice Station in GrandWest Casino.
Right from the opening faceoff, the Kings took charge, eventually skating away with a solid 5-1 victory over the Wildcats. The game was tightly contested, with only a single goal separating the two teams well into the second period. Both sides were evenly matched in shots on goal, but the Kings managed to maintain control for most of the game, with just a few slips here and there.
The Wildcats put up a valiant effort, but their downfall came from not being able to field a full roster for this first clash. With fewer players to rotate, the Wildcats started to look gassed by the third period, allowing the Kings to dominate the final stretch.
The Kings’ usual stalwarts—Ultman Samaai, Marc Giot, and Alex Orbery—were relentless throughout, applying constant pressure whenever they hit the ice. But credit where credit’s due: the Kings' coaching staff made sure to give valuable ice time to some of the young guns. Keep an eye on the likes of Baker, Kamish, and Booi—they’re rising stars and proved they’re ready to make an impact.
On the defensive side, the Kings were exceptional, breaking out of their zone with textbook precision time and time again. This allowed them to almost double the Wildcats' shots on goal. The Wildcats’ goalie had his hands full, but our very own 'Spiderman'—Ryan Boyd—barely broke a sweat, allowing just one puck past him in the entire game.
Now, folks, this is just the beginning. There’s plenty more action coming your way, and here’s the schedule so you can make sure not to miss a single minute of the best ice hockey on the continent!
