Saigon Vietnam History
Episode 4: Saigon Vietnam
In this episode, we travel to Saigon Vietnam and discuss the history of the area, and discuss where the name Saigon could've come from. Because this video is geared toward a western audience, we discuss the contributions of Francisco de Pina, and Alexandre de Rhodes to the Vietnamese language. We show you some sights from the nations tallest building, Landmark 81. For those looking to do more research on some of the terms used in this video, please check out the reference material at the end. Also, because Vietnam as we know it today was home to several empires and different ethnic groups, it can be difficult to navigate it's history, in this case, Cochinchina was a term used between the 17th and 18th centuries to refer to what we know as Vietnam today.
