Wallace: “The campaign released an ad that is the debate, the whole debate, 67 million people tuned in and watched it. I think we’re in football, big football game territory, Super Bowl numbers with that audience. And again, when people see her and when people hear her, you know, when you hear the people that are endorsing her, Liz Cheney said this was a convention speech that George W. Bush could have given. You know, we keep comparing her to President Obama, whose campaign is — is similar in terms of the enthusiasm and the broad coalition. But ideologically, she has already rallied a much wider coalition. I mean, her enthusiastic supporters include Bernie Sanders and Dick Cheney. And I wonder if you can just speak to the broadness, the broad base of support, the broad base of people saying if you love this country, there’s only one candidate in November, and it’s Kamala Harris.”

Clyburn: “That’s absolutely correct. And it’s kind of interesting, if you go back and look at her candidacy back in 2019 before she dropped out of that race, everybody was saying at the time that she was too far to the right of center. Then all of a sudden we started hearing this time around, in anticipation, she’s too far to the left of center. Where is she? She is right where the vast majority of the American people are. And, Nicolle, you may remember this, I think it was on your show that I once said my dad was a very conservative guy who told us to conserve energy, to save money. But he never asked his congregations for a conservative offering. He always asked for a liberal offering. And so, I just believe that there are times to be conservative, there are times to be liberal. There are times to be progressive. We have got to continue toward our [inaudible] a more perfect union. And if it means to conserve or to preserve or to liberalize your efforts, let’s do what needs to be done, given the time and circumstances in which we find ourselves. And so, she is doing that. And I think that that’s why you see there’s such a broad base of support for her. Progressives love her, conservatives respect her. She is the [inaudible] American.”

Wallace: “It’s such a good point. Progressives love her, conservatives respect her.”
