The Sig Sauer MCX Rattler LT
Hey guys! So today I want to talk to you about my new everyday carry. Yup you heard that right. This right here is the all new Sig Sauer MCX Rattler LT chambered in 300 blackout. There are two distinct changes that Sig made with the Rattler LT and that is the LT comes with a 6.75 inch barrel instead of a five inch which also allows for the new handguard that has a few more MLOK slots on it. The way I came to purchasing this specific pistol is that I wanted something that could be as compact as possible while still being a rifle caliber. This Rattler when the pistol brace is folded comes in at just over seventeen inches long which makes it very concealable in a bag. Personally, the two bags I use for it are my Vertx Commuter Sling and my Vertx Gamut Backpack, which is slightly bigger, depending on what I’m doing that day. Both of which I have done reviews and unboxing videos of, if you’re interested.
I know some people may have an instant reaction to why would anyone need or want to carry a 300 blackout pistol and the answer to that is simple, for peace of mind. At this point we can all agree the world is not getting any safer and as a father and husband my primary role in life is as a protector to the ones I love. So for me, I want and need to be as ready and capable as possible for any situation that may present itself.
So let’s talk a little about how I chose to set this up. You will see, I kept it pretty minimal because the role of this gun is to be a bag gun that I can carry on me daily so I wanted to keep it as lightweight and compact as possible.
Starting with the optic, I went with the XPS2-300 by Eotech. This optic sits lower than their EXPS line and comes with two dots in the reticle as opposed to the standard one with the idea that once you zero the top dot for supers, the lower dot should be zeroed for subs. Thus far I have only used supers with this set up but plan on doing a specific review of the optic once my suppressor arrives and I can train with some subsonic ammo.
For a weapon light I chose the Modlite OKW 18350 mounted on the Arisaka Defense Offset Scout MLOK Mount with the Surefire DS00 tailcap connected to the Modlite ModButton Lite pressure pad. This is one of the brightest compact lights you can currently get which I think fits the size of the Rattler LT perfectly.
Underneath you’ll see I chose to add the Emissary Development Handbrake, which for me made the ergonomics of this set up feel great in my hands. Lastly I added Sigs folding and locking pistol brace. Although a little more expensive than some of the other brands on the market, what sold me with this specific pistol brace is that it locked both when it's deployed as well as when it is folded.
So here is what everyone really wants to hear, what do I think about the Rattler overall. For me, with the very specific purpose I had in mind for this purchase it absolutely checks all the boxes. I’ve taken this to the range a few times and have shot several hundred rounds through it with zero malfunctions. I have primarily been firing 115 gr V max ammo and the accuracy has been incredible. Throwing on my Eotech G33 magnifier I have been getting very tight groups at 25 yards, which unfortunately is the furthest I’be shot it so far at my local indoor range.
For me this will only be part one of my review for the Rattler LT. As I mentioned I plan on suppressing this, so once that happens I want to test it out with subsonic ammo and see just how quiet it is as well as how gassy it will be. I also plan on taking this out to an outdoor range with the hopes to get some filming of me testing this out at longer distances. Thank you for taking the time to check out my review and I hope you’ll stick around for more to come.
