This new set of eight solar garden lights from ZFITEI are similar to many others and currently reduced to just £15.29 are one of the cheapest but do offer several very real advantages over their rivals.
In the large and colourful branded product box are the eight lights, all separately wrapped, ground spikes for each, and a single sheet user guide. Build quality seems fine but as with all garden lights, only time will tell.
In the large and colourful branded product box are the eight lights, all separately wrapped, ground spike sets for each, and a single sheet user guide. Build quality seems fine but as with all garden lights, only time will tell.
Each 7 x 11.5 cm light is made from robust plastic with a front plate holding the 2v/ 100mAh 35 x 40 mm solar panel and 8 LEDs. On the rear is a single waterproof switch to turn the unit off and on and unlike on some rivals, the setting is clearly indicated. Internally each unit houses a 600mAh NiMH rechargeable battery. I have not attempted it and do not advise you to do so, but I suspect the battery can be removed for external charging or replacement as is the case on some similar devices.
Fitting the spike takes just a few seconds and it can just as easily be removed. The lights look good when mounted flush in the ground but using the spike is always best as it keeps the lights above the ground and away from pooled water. Personally, as with all solar lights, I think the safest option is to store them indoors during winter and a less permanent mounting facilitates this.
The lights are very bright and one of the most powerful of this type I have seen and put me in mind of runway landing lights. This may be a drawback for some users but for many others a positive advantage, particularly for use in large gardens with driveways. Turning on at dusk and off at dawn, they have a promised runtime of 8-10 hours following a 6-8 hour charge. There is a switch on the base to turn them off and on but doing so off may disable the solar panel, so the safest option is to to keep them turned on except for storage.
