Operation C No-Death Playthrough (Game Boy Player Capture)
This is a capture of me playing through Operation C for the Game Boy. This is not an emulator. This footage was captured directly from my GameCube using my Game Boy Player with progressive scan mode enabled (you'll need the GameCube's component cables to do this and your model of GameCube must support component out as well).
Continuing my Contra playthroughs, here’s Operation C for the Game Boy. I actually have no prior experience with this game. I managed to pick up a sealed copy off eBay back in 2015 and I’m just now getting around to beating it.
Operation C was the first Game Boy Contra game, and as the name might suggest, it was an original title not directly based off of any prior Contra games, though it does take some obvious inspiration from Super C/Super Contra. Levels alternate between standard side-scrolling and top-view vantages, and there are only five stages total. Though the game seems a bit short nowadays, it was a good length for a portable game at the time.
While Operation C is only single-player and features just three obtainable weapons – spread, flame, and homing – the game is well designed and the homing shot makes its debut here. The homing shot is actually a bit overpowered, but the game isn’t terribly difficult, and it’s easy enough to beat it with any of the weapons. Also, much like Super Contra and Contra 4, you can upgrade a weapon by collecting two of the same type.
However, the game does have some minor flaws. Your character runs a bit slow and jumps incredibly high, so much so that you can accidentally jump right into enemies or their shots, especially in the vertical sections. But once you get used to that, you should beat the game in no time.
In this video I played through the game using the homing shot without dying.
Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the GameCube's component cables at 60 frames per second. I'm using an original model Game Boy Advance as a controller via a GameCube/Game Boy Advance Link Cable.
