Are pro-Palestine socialists the key to a Trump victory? ("Abandon Harris" press conference)

(Raleigh, 9/5/2024) I've been meaning to get back into more on-location reporting, so I headed down to Raleigh on Thursday for a press conference held by the "Abandon Harris" campaign in front of the NC Democratic Party headquarters.

The gist of the message was that "genuine progressives" should vote for one of the three avowed socialist running for president (Jill Stein, Cornel West, or Claudia De La Cruz) instead of Vice President Kamala Harris because the "genocide" in Palestine is such an important issue that no other difference between Harris and former President Donald Trump matters.

If you are familiar with the pro-Palestine activism movement across the country, you will know that it goes hand-in-hand with radical leftism; you'll often hear anti-Zionism in the same sentence as anti-fascism, anti-racism, anti-capitalism, or anti-colonialism.

For instance, it has been reported that one of the speakers at this event, Dr. Rania Masri has previously called the October 7th attacks a "beautiful day", using language very much in line with the neo-Marxist ideologies: "I just want to be very frank about it and not be in the least bit apologetic of the violence of the oppressed or the occupied.”

The real question of interest is, how many single-issue Palestine voters are there who would have otherwise voted for the Democratic candidate.

Nearly 90,000 voters selected "No Preference" over President Joe Biden in the 2024 NC Democratic primary, the highest percentage of any state. If even a small portion of those choose to vote for a 3rd party presidential candidate, it could be critical in a state like ours, where recent statewide races have been decided by only several hundred votes.
