09.01.24 "Healing Decades Old Experiences"
I just came back from a short trip to the East Coast to visit family and to attend the Great New York State Fair (the "Great" is actually part of the official name). The New York State Fair was the first State Fair in the USA, held first in 1841 in Syracuse New York, 183 years ago. It continues in Syracuse to this day. The Great New York State Fair is an amazing healing experience of diversity and acceptance. Everybody is at the fair, all social economic classes, all races, and all ethnicities. Little children love the fair, and senior citizens love the fair. There is no one who would not be welcome at The Great New York State Fair. I find it tremendously healing to be around this level of diversity. "Your brothers are everywhere. You do not have to seek far for salvation." (OrEd.Tx.9.38) Salvation and healing are definitely available at The Great New York State Fair
Just going to the Fair represents a significant personal healing for me. When I was a child my family were onion farmers, and this time of the year was peak onion harvesting season. The idea of taking a day off to go to the State Fair seemed to not be a possibility. Plus it was just not the kind of thing my family ever did. I know now that my father's chronic mental illness gave him great anxiety when around crowds and the New York State Fair was a really big crowd – so it was out of the question. The State Fair is huge and hosted on a 375 acre tract of land. It lasts for 13 days. It attracts about 1 million people a year.
Admission to the New York State Fair was almost free (probably about $1 or $2 per person when I was a child). Even today it only costs $8 for adults and is free to people under 12 or over 65 years of age. However food and other things at the Fair (like midway rides) DO cost money, and my family lived under a perpetual perception of lack, which was unwarranted because we were never poor. Money spent at the State Fair would have just seemed frivolous.
I was a teen ager before I went to my first State Fair with friends and their families. Unlike my father, I loved crowds, and I loved seeing all the different people. I still do. Being around so many fellow brothers and sisters still feels like Heaven to me. I'm just a people person, I always have been. I was aware of the State Fair when I was young. I was aware that many, many people went. I was also aware that my family did NOT go, even though we lived very close to it (about 25 miles away), and all this felt like a several kinds of lack to me. "42. Wholeness is the perceptual content of miracles. It thus corrects or atones for the faulty perception of lack anywhere." (OrEd.Tx.1.61) Going to the Great New York State Fair now somehow corrects those faulty perceptions of lack I had many, many decades ago, even if I do have to travel across the country to do it. Some healings take a very long time to manifest, but when they do it's just as sweet as can be. The Great New York State Fair is great fun!
