From time to time I hear people, who are actually trying to discredit a literal interpretation of ACIM, talk about how we don't see real miracles of healing amongst ACIM students which for them is proof that the discipline doesn't mean what it says literally. "Miracles" doesn't mean miracles. It must mean something else. Before they believe what ACIM says in plain English, these people want to see proof. They are the "doubting Thomases."

I have found that providing these people with proof doesn't usually change their minds, because they always find ways to explain away whatever you provide them. "That person would have gotten well anyway" they might exclaim. Remember demonstrable miracles as a way to convince people is debunked early in the Text, on the very first page, "The use of miracles as spectacles to induce belief is wrong, or better, is a misunderstanding of their purpose. They are really used for and by believers." (OrEd.Tx.1.10) It appears that Jesus' first instinct here was to use the word "wrong." Although he corrects this quickly.

Let's stick with "wrong" for a moment. If we find ourselves in the position of needing to prove ACIM's efficacy to a "non-believer," remember that Jesus told us it was "wrong" to engage the person at that level. Witnessed miracles are simply causes for celebration and rejoicing amongst believers. "For those already willing to change their mind he has no function except to rejoice with them, for they have become teachers of God with him." (OrEd.Mn.5.8) I've always liked this next quotation too. "Why are you not rejoicing? You are free of pain and sickness, misery and loss, and all effects of hatred and attack." (OrEd.Tx.29.12) Let's hear it for rejoicing!

In that energy ... the CMC Healing Team has been praying for, "The appearance of – Jeffrey (named changed) needing to find gainful employment so he can support himself and the animals he cares for." Recently we got this message from our Healing Team member who put Jeffrey on the list. "Jeffrey got the job! He starts in less than 10 days. I know that it is because of our healing prayers for him. I am so happy to be a part of the Healing Team. When minds join on behalf of another, healing is always accomplished." And we're so happy to have that member on the Team too!

"WooHoo!" That's me rejoicing as I should be.
