CH 1 John reminds them and us that GOD is light and in HIM there is NO darkness. John talks about the believer in Yeshua walking in the light of GOD rather than in the darkness of the KOD.
GOD is light, with no darkness in HIM at all. We must live in the light. We cannot walk in the dark and simultaneously say we walk with Christ.CH 2 elaborates on this, noting when we obey GOD’s commandments instead of walking in sin, we are in HIM, and the light. This includes loving other believers.
In CH 2 John writes about loving versus hating another believer. A warning to all about loving the things of the world over the love for the creator. Worshipping the creation rather than the creator. A warning about that lust of the senses, eyes, ears, material possessions.
Also in CH 2 John writes, as Christians, we are not to love the world and its evil ways. We are not to follow false teachings, one such false teaching was that is that Yeshua was merely a GOD-inspired teacher or prophet. John warns that those who deny Yeshua as GOD-man, as GOD in the flesh are of the spirit of the antichrist, not the spirit of GOD.
CH 3 reminds us of the glorious privilege we have as children of GOD. So, we are children of GOD we are to live our lives like we are indeed children of GOD…because we are. This means avoiding evil and deception. Not to be like Cain, hating our brother. Instead, love each other so deeply as to sacrifice our very lives for each other—just as Yeshua did.
