Brainstorm Media has unveiled official trailer for Believer (2024). Struggling writer, Kate Harris (ELLA BALLENTINE), finds herself at the center of the very story she is covering when brutally attacked by a notorious cult leader and mass murderer Marshall Grayson (KRIS HOLDEN-RIED), a man who exerts an inexplicable control over his followers. "Perhaps he thought you were..." "a believer?" Brainstorm Media has revealed an official trailer for an indie sci-fi mystery thriller titled Believer, about a cult leader and one of his followers. This is set for a release in September, arriving on VOD right away when it opens. A new horror / sci-fi thriller written and directed by Sheldon Wilson. Believer follows a woman who is viciously attacked by a cult leader in a court room, only to awaken in the hospital with absolutely no memory of the incident. A struggling writer finds herself at the center of the story she is covering when brutally attacked by a notorious cult leader and mass murderer, a man who exerts an inexplicable control over his followers. When she claims to have no recollection of the attack, her family begins to question her motives... Starring Lauren Lee Smith, Ella Ballentine, Peter Mooney, Martin Roach, Ilan O'Driscoll, Jonathan Potts, and Kris Holden-Ried. Strangely the sci-fi side of this isn't clear - does it have to do with aliens or the apocalypse or mind control or something else?

Believer is both written and directed by the Canadian producer / filmmaker Sheldon Wilson, director of the feature films Night Class, Shallow Ground, Screamers: The Hunting, Shark Killer, The Unspoken previously, plus many low budget genre TV movies and other projects. It's produced by Jonathan Soon-Shiong. This film hasn't premiered at any film festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. How do cult leaders gain such influence over their followers? Netflix’s How to Become a Cult Leader gave us a lot of logical answers to those questions with Peter Dinklage narrating. But what if that influence is something that is even more sinister? Perhaps it is a form of possession or mind control that turns a person into someone unrecognizable. That seems to be the case with Brainstorm Media’s Believer, a scary psychological thriller with a trailer that will intrigue horror fans.

In the clip, we see a man being sentenced in a Maryland court for his heinous crimes. A young woman sits in the audience with an apprehensive look on her face. Suddenly the man, who has cloudy irises, turns around and leaps on her in a werewolf-like fashion. That’s a new fear unlocked for me along with Hugh Grant holding me hostage in a house of horrors. She wakes up cuffed to a hospital bed with no recollection of what happened. Strange things begin to happen around her and it is not clear if she’s under his spell or not.
