Kamala Harris says she's a "proud product" of the public education system. But Bill Maher doesn't see much to be "proud" about.

He just dropped a brutal reality check on the public school system, and it's not looking good.

• Barely a third of fourth graders nationally are proficient at reading, with even fewer proficient in math.

• 26% of Chicago public school students meet English language requirements.

• 17.5% of Chicago public school students are proficient in math.

• Math proficiency in Chicago public schools has dropped by 78% since 2012.

•Reading proficiency in Chicago public schools has declined by 63% since 2012.

“And yet, the National Assessment of Educational Progress, NAEP, like I have to tell you, says they do the testing, and they've done it for decades. And we're about where we were in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. I guess my question is, were we that f—king stupid in the 70s, 80s, and 90s?”
