‘Yankee go home’ banner and chanting as U.S. warship docks in Türkiye

The Communist Party of Türkiye (TKP) have made their feelings on the arrival of a US warship crystal clear, unfurling a giant banner which read ‘Yankee go home’ in the Port of Izmir. The USS Wasp, tasked with protecting Israel, anchored in the port earlier this week, to the disapproval of many in Türkiye, who have protested the arrival.

A video of the banner was shared on X by the TKP, who said, ‘It’s not enough to hide on your ship! You will hear our slogans, you will see our banner. We will shout in unison, we’ll get you out of this country.’

The move comes after two US marines were assaulted during a port visit in Izmir on Monday, during a protest against Israel’s actions in Gaza and ‘US imperialism.’
