In CH 1. John reminds them and us that GOD is light and in HIM there is NO darkness. John talks about the believer in Yeshua walking in the light of GOD rather than in the darkness of the KOD.
In CH 2 John writes about loving versus hating another believer. A warning to all about loving the things of the world over the love for the creator. Worshipping the creation rather than the creator. A warning about that lust of the senses, eyes, ears, material possessions.
In CH 3 John writes that we are children of GOD, therefore we ought to live like we are. We are not to live in a constant state of a sinful lifestyle. John contrasts children of GOD with those who follow an ungodly lifestyle, children of the devil, the father of lies. The consequences of loving versus hating a brother.
John has covered these important topics with his audience and by extension and application us, that GOD is light, GOD is Righteous, GOD is truth, and in CH 4, GOD is love.
John’s warning here is not against those who pretend to have the Spirit’s presence and thus are false prophets, that is bad enough. But here it is against genuine evil spirits who are inspiring these false prophets. These false prophets were and are inspired by the evil one.
