September 5, 2024 - COIN & US Department of Labor Hold Information Session on Immigrant Workers

As seen on the WISH Indianapolis 5 & 6 p.m. news. The Coalition for Our Immigrant Neighbors (COIN) presented the session, which was designed for employers, labor organizations and service providers to better understand issues related to immigrant workers. Kent Newton, the founder and board chair of COIN, is heard from.

As the American Immigration Council notes, "About 6.2 percent of Indiana’s residents are foreign-born, and 3.3 percent of its U.S.-born residents live with at least one immigrant parent. Immigrants make up 7.9 percent of Indiana's labor force and support the state’s economy in many ways. They account for 9.6 percent of entrepreneurs, 13.5 percent of STEM workers, and 19.0 percent of postsecondary teachers in the state. As neighbors, business owners, taxpayers, and workers, immigrants are an integral part of Indiana’s diverse and thriving communities and make extensive contributions that benefit all."
