These individuals have found personal meaning and identity in their Islamic faith, often citing its spiritual teachings, sense of community, and historical connections to African and African American experiences as motivating factors for their conversions.
Islam's arrival in Africa marked the beginning of a long and tragic history of colonization, enslavement, and cultural erasure for African peoples. From the initial Arab invasions of North Africa to the modern-day activities of groups like Boko Haram, Islam has left an indelible and destructive mark on the continent.

The Arab conquest of North Africa in the 7th century AD laid the foundation for centuries of Islamic domination and exploitation. The indigenous Berber populations were subjected to forced religious conversion, cultural Arabization, and economic exploitation. Those who resisted faced brutal repression, enslavement, or death.

The Islamic slave trade, sanctioned by verses in the Quran such as Surah 33:50, which allows Muslim men to take captive women as slaves, led to the enslavement and castration of millions of African men, women, and children. The Arab slave trade was particularly brutal, with an estimated 14 million Africans enslaved between the 7th and 20th centuries.

In West Africa, the jihadist movements of the 18th and 19th centuries, such as the Sokoto Caliphate, waged wars of religious conversion and political domination. These conflicts resulted in the forced Islamization of African societies, the destruction of indigenous cultures, and the imposition of Sharia law.

In the 20th century, the creation of the Arab League in 1945 further entrenched Arab political and economic domination over North Africa. This pan-Arab organization has been accused of promoting Arabization policies that marginalize and discriminate against African peoples, such as the Amazigh (Berber) communities in Morocco and Algeria.

Today, Islamist terrorist groups like Boko Haram continue to perpetrate violence and oppression against African peoples in the name of Islam. Boko Haram's campaign of terror in Nigeria has led to the deaths of thousands and the displacement of millions, with the group targeting Christians, secular Muslims, and anyone who resists its radical Islamist agenda.

Despite the immense suffering and destruction caused by Islam in Africa, there has been no formal apology or offer of reparations from Islamic institutions or governments. The Arab League, in particular, has failed to acknowledge or address the historical and ongoing injustices faced by African peoples under Islamic rule.
