The Ankh - a key for the nervous system?
A sign of life, vitality, protection, and divine power, the Ankh is described as the key of life.
Regularly depicted in the hands of the Gods and Pharaohs of ancient Egypt, the Ankh is associated with deity and deification; often shown emanating from the Sun disk, it represents the sacred force that animates all living things.
The connection between our star and the concept of life and vitality is an old one. It is an idea that has roots and branches spread throughout all traditions of the ancient world. This connection is energetic in nature - the light and warmth of the sun were seen to enliven and regenerate the land.
However, our wise and subtle ancestors also connected the life-giving power of the sun and the energy that reinvigorated and revitalised the land with the intense, electrifying, and eye-opening forces they felt when working with their own creative energy - the nervous system at its height.
The ancient priests, nobles, and royal lines of Egypt were perhaps among the most knowledgeable, wise, and subtle teachers of these symbolic, metaphorical, and deeply allegorical concepts. The great architects, builders, and masters of mummification knew the symbolic arts well, and to think they were unaware of the sacred energy that runs through all of humanity, and its true potential when conserved and circulated correctly, is counter-productive to all that ancient Egypt stood for and stands for.
The Ankh is frequently depicted along side the Djed pillar and the Was-sceptre. The Djed pillar is the spine of Osiris, it represents stability and longevity; it is the spinal column, the conduit of the human nervous system. The Was-sceptre is a sign of control and power. When viewed from the physiological perspective, it can be seen as an anatomical tool to help awaken and maintain the sensitive energy channels and energy centres that align with the glands, organs, and systems of the human body.
The Ankh, with its deep relationship with life and energy, may also be seen in this same light - the light of the human nervous system and its powerful innate capabilities. The Ankh can also be looked upon - and utilised - as an anatomical tool, a tool to help awaken our inner eye and allow us to finally see the light... true human potential.
