Q&A - September 3rd - Winchester 94, Gallery Guns, Revolvers, and more!
00:00 Introduction
00:29 Sunshade Length
"What length of sunshade do I need for the long scope?"
This will be determined by the length of the barrel, measured from breech to muzzle.
28" barrel = 3" sunshade
30" = 5"
32" = 7"
34" = 9"
These are the lengths to match up the end of the scope to the end of the muzzle on a normal rifle setup. For extra long barrels, unusual action lengths, or other strange situations, please give us a call.
The long scope ships with a 5" sunshade (for a 30" barrel) in the kit.
02:37 Winchester 94 Mount
"What can I do to mount a scope on a Winchester 94 if there are no mounting screws or holes for the rear mount?"
The Winchester 92 and 94 are top eject rifles. This means that the scope will need to be offset mounted. There's really no way around that.
If there are no peep sight mounting holes on the side of the receiver, they'll need to be drilled and tapped.
05:33 Gallery Gun
For mounting a scope on a Winchester 1890 in 22 WRF...
This is an old pump-action .22, also known as a gallery gun. These kind of rifles were meant for very close range, generally as fun guns at carnivals to win a stuffed bear. This rifle will have to be drilled and tapped on the barrel to mount a scope.
07:02 Revolver and Red Dot
"That looks ignorant to shoot will the red dot hold up"
It did indeed hold up.
This isn't a very ergonomic setup. There's no way this revolver (.460" S&W Magnum) and red dot will fit in a holster, and it's quite a bit heavier than most other revolvers.
Still an awful lot of fun to shoot, though. And it spat flame every time it went off.
08:38 Illumination
"What is an illuminated reticle? Is it night vision? What do you use an illuminated reticle for?"
Modern reticles, whether wire or glass etched, will appear like black lines when not illuminated. Illumination casts light onto the reticle. This provides a great deal of contrast against the target, especially in low-light conditions.
This is not to be confused with night vision. Illumination on the reticle does not thing to make your target stand out. It just helps the lines of the reticle stand out against a low-contrast target.
