Posted • September 3, 2024: As previously reported, posters were spotted at some Philadelphia bus stops over the weekend that showed a rendering of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris wearing an Eagles helmet, with the message at the bottom reading "Kamala - Official Candidate of the Philadelphia Eagles" along with a link to an official Eagles page that promotes voting. The Eagles organization was asked on Twitter/X if the Vice President really was their official candidate: Lucky @TheMagaHulk: “Hi Philadelphia Eagles, who is responsible for this ad at a bus stop near 34th and Walnut? Is Kamala really the official candidate of the Philadelphia Eagles?” https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GWexlEXXUAEWOEj?format=jpg&name=large -- Harris has been in the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania at least three times in the past month. The first time, she was in Philly in early August to announce Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.

The most recent visit was Monday, where she tried to play up her union creds in front of a Pittsburgh audience alongside Scranton-born President Joe Biden. Not long after they were tagged in social media posts, the Eagles account put out a statement that noted "We are aware counterfeit political ads are being circulated and are working with our advertising partner to have them removed." The company that owns the bus stops in question, Intersection Media, also vowed to take action: "While our bus shelters have locks that typically prevent the installation of unauthorized copy by non-Intersection staff, occasionally people find a way to unlock the ad box and insert unauthorized copy. The unauthorized copy in this case implies an endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris by the Philadelphia Eagles. We note that the Eagles and Intersection had nothing to do with the creation or posting of this unauthorized copy and Intersection staff will be removing the ads as soon as possible."

A city spokesperson said in a statement to NBC 10 Philadelphia that the posters "were not digital ads placed by the Harris campaign" nor the Eagles. But the action promised wasn't fast enough for at least one Eagles fan, who took to the streets armed with copies of the Eagles tweet and some rolls of tape, both of which he used to cover up at least one of the signs he's seen: Fox 29's Steve Keeley spotted the fan who said he went to Staples to make copies of the Eagles’ and started pasting them over the unauthorized ad. "This person is lying to everyone who comes and uses this stop," said Joe, the Birds fan. "That's what I'm very concerned about. The fact that they're spreading lies that the Philadelphia Eagles endorsed Kamala Harris as a candidate for president of the United States." (…)
