When, Why and How is the US Tik Tok Ban going to happen?

As part of this week's episode of "This week in social media", I explained how and why the US Congress maybe ban tik tok next year!

“As of April 2023, at least 34 out of 50 states have announced or enacted bans on state government agencies, employees, and contractors using TikTok on government-issued devices. State bans only affect government employees and do not prohibit civilians from having or using the app on their personal devices.”

Surely after this the UK and European commission made the same ruling!

For those who don't know, under Chinese Article 7 of the Chinese national intelligence law

"All organizations and citizens shall support, assist, and cooperate with national intelligence efforts in accordance with law, and shall protect national intelligence work secrets they are aware of.”

Back in Jan 2024, the US Congress interviewed the Tik Tok CEO about their worries to see if tik tok or Byte Dance who owns Tik Tok, had shared any data with the Chinese.

The Congress did talk about project Texas, where Tik tok would "firewall off" the US data, however their is questions / worries about what happen to the US data between 2016 and March 2023. In answer to, this question Tik Tok CEO "Senator, we have not been asked for any data by the Chinese government, and we have never provided it."
