Mickey Cohen, born Meyer Harris Cohen in 1913, was a child of Jewish immigrants who found themselves in the streets of Brooklyn. His childhood was one of poverty and hardship, shaping a young Mickey into a streetwise brawler with a determination to escape his circumstances.

By age nine, he was already running errands for local gangsters and dipping his toes into the murky waters of petty theft. While he was noticeably small in size, he showcased a fierce fighting spirit, a trait that caught the eye of those who controlled the underground boxing scene.

Mickey's natural talent for boxing opened a new chapter in his life. He found himself immersed in illegal prizefighting, where his tenacity and willingness to fight dirty earned him both respect and a reputation. Upon arriving in LA, Mickey quickly fell into the orbit of Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, a charismatic and ambitious mobster with grand plans to transform Las Vegas into a gambling paradise. Mickey's street smarts and his experience in organized crime made him a valuable asset to Siegel's growing empire. He proved his worth by handling the dirty work, collecting debts, and ensuring that Siegel's operations ran smoothly. This alliance marked the beginning of Mickey Cohen's ascent to power.
