Ian McKellen Returning to Middle Earth in Hunt for Gollum

Ian McKellen recently said he is open to playing Gandalf again in the upcoming Middle Earth film The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, a spin-off to Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s books.

Th Hunt for Gollum will be produced by Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens as well as directed by Andy Serkis who will also be playing Gollum once again. The story in question does not have a whole lot to go off of since it’s a relatively small part to the appendices. However, Gandalf is a central character to it as well as Aragorn. Ian McKellen said if he is going to reprise the role of Gandalf they have to get started sooner rather than later since he isn’t getting any younger. There has been no word yet if Viggo Mortensen would be willing to return to the part he had 20 years ago.
