The LORD appreciated the intention of David to do Him a favor; however, He wanted to give him more favors. Living in a cedar house, King David thought of building a better permanent structure for the ark of the Yahweh. When God responded, David received greater favors from the Yahweh—an eternal dynasty and eternal kingdom. However, He wanted his son to build a temple for His ark, not him.
